“Geography & History of the Falls of the Ohio”
Presented by: Paul W. Olliges
Paul is a 32-year volunteer for the Falls of the Ohio. His presentation covers why this area is called the "Falls," when the name was first used, and the history and founding of the local cities. Why is Clarksville a township and not a city? He will also discuss the history and engineering of the Canal and the Locks, highlighting the overall importance of the Falls. Paul Olliges is a lifelong Louisville resident who retired from a 41-year career in Information Technology. He has been involved with the Falls of the Ohio Foundation since before the Interpretive Center was built and joined the "Naturalists @ Heart" volunteer program when it began in 1994. Having contributed over 3,800 volunteer hours, Paul has led numerous hikes and currently specializes in the geography and history of the Falls, the Canal, the Locks, and the Dam.
